Built for jewelers, not generic retail.
Lapis started because the available options were either a generic retail POS that assumes every SKU has a quantity, or a legacy jewelry system that locks you in and makes you run the shop its way. We wanted software that understands the piece, bends to how you run the floor, and never holds your data hostage.
What we believe
Jewelry isn't normal retail. Most of what a jeweler sells is one-of-a-kind: a single ring, a single estate piece, a single loose diamond. Each has its own cost, its own provenance, and a status that has to be exactly right the moment it sells — at the counter or online — or you've oversold something you can't restock.
So we built Lapis around the serialized piece and an append-only ledger that is the single source of truth for where every item is and what's happened to it. The register, the website, the bench, and the books all read from that one truth.
And the leverage stays with the shop. We scope a plan to how you actually work and bill it monthly as a predictable line item, and your inventory, clients, and sales export any time. If Lapis ever stops serving the shop, you leave with your data — not a hostage negotiation.
How we improve on the incumbents
- One-of-a-kind safety by design. The never-oversell guard lives in the database, not in a sync script that hopes for the best.
- Memo done correctly. Vendor-owned pieces stay off your balance sheet and recognize a payable at the moment of sale — the accounting the way it should be.
- The shop runs the floor. Show, hide, or hold back a piece; price it or keep it 'call for price'; scope who sees cost — per piece, per role, your call.
- Your data is portable. Export any time. No lock-in, no hostage-taking, and a published price you can budget.
Who's behind this
Lapis is built and operated by a small, independent team. We're not chasing a generic retail market — we're focused on doing right by independent jewelers, the bench, and the counter.
If you run a shop and the current software is fighting you, we'd like to hear about it.
