Lapis
FAQ

Common questions.

What Lapis is, how it handles one-of-a-kind stock and memo, how the sync and integrations work, and what it costs.

›What is Lapis?
Lapis is point-of-sale and inventory software for independent jewelers. It handles serialized one-of-a-kind stock with full movement history, fast in-store sales, repairs and custom orders, clienteling, memo and consignment, two-way e-commerce sync, QuickBooks sync, and diamond-feed sourcing — in one system.
›Why not just a generic retail POS?
Generic retail POS assumes a SKU has a quantity. Jewelry breaks that: most pieces are one-of-a-kind, each with its own cost, status, and history. A generic system also has no real concept of memo/consignment, bench repairs, or the never-oversell problem when you sell online. Lapis is built around the serialized piece from the ground up.
›How does Lapis stop me overselling a one-of-a-kind piece?
When a piece sells or goes on hold in any channel, it is reserved at the database level — at most one active hold per item, enforced by a constraint. The website and the register read the same inventory truth in the same instant. Storefront webhooks keep both sides current in real time, and a periodic full reconcile backstops any dropped message.
›Which online stores do you sync with?
Shopify first, with BigCommerce and WooCommerce on the same connector architecture. The sync is two-way: pieces push out to the storefront, and orders pull back into the ledger so stock stays accurate everywhere.
›How does memo / consignment work?
Memo pieces are physically on your floor and sell like any other item, but they remain the vendor's asset — off your balance sheet — until sold. At the moment a memo piece sells, Lapis recognizes a payable to the vendor at the memo cost. That's the correct consignment accounting, handled automatically and ready for QuickBooks.
›What are diamond feeds / virtual inventory?
Lapis can ingest loose-diamond feeds from suppliers like RapNet, IDEX, and Nivoda as virtual (not-owned) catalog entries. You can search, quote, and sell from a deep catalogue of stones you don't physically stock; you only order from the supplier once a stone sells. When it's received, it becomes a real owned or memo item through the same ledger that protects the rest of your inventory.
›Does it integrate with QuickBooks?
Yes. Daily sales receipts and memo vendor payables flow to QuickBooks Online, so you avoid double entry and a heavy month-end reconciliation. It's one of the features we can include in your plan.
›How much does it cost?
We scope a plan to your shop — your locations, staff, and the features you'll use — and send you a quote, billed monthly with no long-term contract. Request a quote and we'll put one together.
›Can I get my data out?
Yes — your inventory, clients, and sales export at any time. Lapis is built on an open data model and we don't hold your business hostage. Switching costs should never be a reason to stay.
›How do payments work?
You bring your own card processor and pay their rates directly. Lapis is software — we don't mark up your interchange or take a cut of your sales.
›How do I get started?
Request a quote and we'll walk through Lapis on your own inventory, then help migrate your data and train your staff. Reach us at [email protected].
